On July 15th£¬2008, the promotion of Industry Standard-Root Penetration Resistance of Waterproof Sheets for Planted Roof System (JC/T1075-2008) was held in Beijing. Twenty-plus representatives from companies and institutions attended the meeting. Mr. Zhu Dongqing, President of China National Waterproofing Building Materials Industry Association, delivered a speech.

Authorized by State Development and Reform Commission: Industry Standard-Root Penetration Resistance of Waterproof Sheets for Planted Roof System (JC/T1075-2008) will be in effect on July 1, 2008. The standard was drafted collectively by relevant institutes and production companies through the conferences held by Technical Supervision & Research Center China Building Material Industry, Suzhou Waterproofing Materials Research & Design Institute of China National Chemical Building Materials Corporation, Beijing Building Material Science Research Institute and China National Waterproofing Building Materials Industry Association.

Roof greening is beneficial to the beautification and improvement of eco-environment, through fully utilizing rainfalls, saving energy consumption, reducing green house effects and weakening global temperature increases. Products of this kind on Chinese market partially are imported and the majority comes from domestic producers.

The standard is to evaluate if product qualities are qualified according to the technical basis, which is the entry requirement of market and application delivery. To make the new contents of the standard known to production companies, construction units, science research and design institutes, quality supervision bodies, the four organizing bodies decided to hold the promotion, targeted for new production organization standards, new products quality supervision standards, etc.

The meeting was divided into several sessions: Mr. Zhu Zhiyuan, Senior Engineer of professorial level and main compiler, was mainly responsible for lecturing the application range, classifications, requirements, test methods, and checking rules and its reasons; Dr. Cong Richen from Beijing Institute of Landscape and Gardening introduced Testing Methods on Performance of Root Penetration Resistance of Waterproof Sheets, the process and stage results of 2 batches of planting experiment using root penetration resistance of waterproof sheets; and Ms. Li Xiang from Beijing Office of German¡¯s Vedag presented the situation and trend of roof greening in Europe. After this, all the representatives visited the Root Penetration Resistance of Waterproof Sheets Laboratory of Beijing Institute of Landscape and Gardening.
