The Synthetic High-Molecule Roofing Association of Japan released the 2001 production volume of waterproofing sheet materials in Japan. The total volume is 17,869,774m2, 95.4 percent of that of last year. Among this, with breakdowns by categories, non-vulcanized rubber sheet material is 95,000m2, down 23.7 percent from the preceding year; PVC and EVA add up to 7,380,355m2, slightly up 1 percent; vulcanized rubber accounts for 51 percent of total, at 9,124,013m2, showing a downward trend compared to 2000; modified bitumen roofing felt decrease 28.2 percent, only at 171,300m2; TPE (thermoplastic elastomer), displaying a upward trend, increases 4 percent at 1,097,100m2.
